Since this isn't a serious problem I thought I'd ask in this forum - perhaps someone else had the same problem? A few days ago I changed the folder where I installed PGS from F:\PGS to F:\Pretty Good Solitaire. Ever since PGS takes ages to start, about a minute or more. It never did before. I tried uninstalling and deleting everthing not uninstalled and after a reboot a completely new installation. Same result. I even edited the registry to make sure no "old" entries were still there. It still takes ages to start up. The games all run smoothly, so it's really a minor annoyance. Anyone an idea? Btw, Pretty Good Mahjongg doesn't seem to be affected, it still starts up quick. And PGS never showed any problems on this machine before. I run Win98SE. Thanks for taking the time Brita |

That's a very odd problem, Brita, I don't know what could cause that. I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling, but I guess you've already done that. The game should start up nearly instantly. What version is this? |

Thomas, I did try uninstalling and reinstalling, no change. The version is 8.1.0 June 2002. Brita |

Hi Brita, I have had the same problem with mine booting up. I also run win98se. My problem had started when I started reaching around 1,000 games played. I know that I have had some problems with my computer at times, just had it redone. Now it starts up nicely. So I would have to say that it is probably the version of windows and what may be wrong. Good Luck! |

My odd problem with PGS 500 is Quadruple Klondike is the slowest loading and running game. I have no trouble with any other game in loading, or playing, just that one. |

Quadruple Klondike works okay for me on a win98 machine. It does have many cards to deal out, perhaps if you sped up this option. Also takes a while to play because game is relatively more complex : ) I'm at 66.7% |

Quadruple Klondike Slowness: I'm running under Win XP. I've got a GIG of RAM on my desktop machine. The Quadruple Klondike problem has been longstanding and very weird. I guess I've gotten used to it. I've been registered for PGS since way before Quadruple Klondike existed, so this was really just a comment about the problem. I do have all speed options to highest. |

Quadruple Klondike has by far the largest layout of any game, so it will definitely be the slowest game to deal out. But on the fastest animation speed setting, it should still deal out fairly quickly.

This may not be exactly related but I just recently found that my Norton Anti-virus really slows down my SpiderWizard start up. It takes 5 sec if Anti-virus is disabled but over 150 sec if it is enabled. Is this usual for any of the solitaire programs? |
