Perhaps this should have been sent directly to a mod, but I think it's of general enough concern to post here instead.
Does your board software not support a "mark all as read" function, or have you simply not enabled it? It would be handy to have those "new" flags (for individual topics and for their forums) kept up to date more properly for clarity on return visits.
I use IE-6 set to refresh "each visit", and my ISP doesn't, mercifully, use server caching.
