Enough of 101 for me. All of those folks who want to play hundreds of hands with few or no winners can have your #1 position. It happened twice in the last few days. And one of the players has done it in several games. I am done!

He told me he was very unimpressed with Canfield, and that a player had leapfrogged him by playing 300+ games in a single day.....and winning none of them. Some people are playing 101 just to amass points. They don't appear to put much effort into actually winning games. I agree with Mike; it's pathetic.

There are a few (?) games i can then recommend. They are all luck games where you didn't need to think. You just have to use the hint keybord combination (ctr. H) and they do the moves for you. My best winning time is with this 3.5 s.
But i also cannot understand, why people play a game just to score points and not want to win the game, especially when you see in the climb-mode stats, that they are winnable. That's why i concentrate on some players in the stats.

Hi Markus, Surely the whole point of playing Solitaire IS to think. You pit your wits against tricky deals and exercise your brain by thinking how best you can win them. Games that require a high degree of luck don't appeal to most of us, including you. I know you also like to see how fast it is possible to win some games. That's fine. But ask yourself this question...... How long would you continue to play Solitaire if every game was just pure luck?
I'd find something else to entertain me.

Richard, don't think i play those luck games very much. Just sometimes, when my brain is tired i do the finger training. I will now, knowing how to do it, reorganizing my favorite folder. After that i will try to win the rest of the games i haven't "still won yet" (?). (About 20 to 30.) I look always also for the games others cannot do, but i have only 200 games and unfortunately not so much time as you. And you know, i love games where the luck factor (?) is low and the skill factor (?) high.
BTW i have seen a fridge, which maybe fits (?) in your kitchen. "Will send you in an email a picture from it in the next days." (?)

P.s.: Some stats really do not stand to the discussion. "They show just how stupid/dumb/... human beings could be." (?) And that's all "to be on the top of the table." (?)

"haven't yet won" is better.
"where the luck factor is low and the skill factor high"..... Perfect!!!
I've got a bad feeling about this fridge!
"human beings can be" is better.
"just to be top of the table" is also better.

That's quite a l-o-n-g post you have made. I agree with everything you have said.
At the rate you you are going you will soon be correcting MY English. Well done!

There are a few games in 101 that I did not play. When it first cam out I tried to play as many as possible to try and make sure they were working the way they should. I then settled in on a few I liked. I played Eight Off for a long time. Then I made some kind of error and had to start over. It wasn't worth it. Then Richard and I were playing Canfield and Canfield 3 Deal. when Richard went on holiday I stopped. I thought I would wait until he came back. That was the first time someone (the same person as in furture games) decided to just play hand after hand and move ahead. Not many winners as most people can tell by looking at the stats compared to Richard and myself. that was when I decided not to let them get away with it. I continued to play and moved ahead with more winning hands. Then it happened again the other day. 300+ hands played and few winners. Now how does that help people who are playing the game for fun and looking to see how they are doing against other players. So I will be playing only the couple that I enjoy. And not that often anymore. I enjoyed the back and forth I had with other players. I would play some then they would play some and we would be working on the same hands and it was a fun rivalry. That is all over now.

Ha! That's one LOUD fridge Markus. (The entire front is covered with our Union Jack). For anyone who doesn't know, the illustration I'm attaching is how it evolved. The flags of England,Scotland and Ireland were superimposed. What happened to poor old Wales?

Hi Mike, You have my sympathy. I saw the writing on the wall some time ago. We've discussed this previously. Some players are making a mockery of the stats. Sorting by percentage wins is the best way, and no-one who has played less than 50 games should be included in them.

I'd be more concerned about the mental health of someone who could play this game, 24 hours a day, for a total of just under 48 days. Even if she played it for ONLY 12 hours a day we are talking about THREE MONTHS. Has PGME be out for three months already? Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. Perhaps it's only me who's bananas.

PGSME is much older. I bought it on 2. august 2008. I don't know, if Free Fan has already been, because i played mainly Penguin or Eight Off.
(My older versions show november 2007 (with 40 games). Free Fan came in 2009.)

On a serious note, the stats that you posted tells me that that game is virtually dead. No-one will ever attempt to compete as they have zero chance of catching up. We have said it repeatedly, the only way to compile the stats is by percentage. Then the player with the highest percentage will always be on top. Those players who play like automatons with little regard to whether they win or lose will be in positions in the tables that match their skill and ability. The cream should always be on the surface.

I remember seeing how people had blown past me in this game and gave up. 37,000+ hands is astonishing. Congratulations to her. Markus. You will indeed find some games which are unwinnable in every PGS game. Cards that you need just have to be buried. Play 5000 hands of free fan and I think you find at least one. Although there are some people who can play 90,000 and never have a loss in some games. And if you believe that. I have a nice bridge here in Los Angeles to sell you.

She played 37060 games with an average time of 2 min 1,8 s. That means, she played 4 .513.908 seconds or without sleeping 52 days 5 hours 51 minutes 48 seconds and 0.00384 seconds. A lot of time to have at least one beeer.

There are just 35771 games missing. With my actual average score of 54.5 seconds it will take 2.004.019,5 seconds to have her beaten by length (of course 100%). That would take 29d 7h 9' 53'' and 0.05248 seconds. Ok, let's say 1 month (a little sleep, a little to drink, why eating when you can survive with beeer (there is everything in you need for life)).

The bridge is the color of a McButler tartan. It is made from toothpicks. I want 3 million Euros or a salt shaker. It can be airmailed, faxed shipped in pieces to be reassembled by you since you have proven so handy at do-it-yourself projects. Or flown by carrier pigeons. Liz says she's changed her mind about the bridge. She wants a garden gnome instead. Could you hang onto the bridge in the meantime in case she has a rethink? Just pop it into your garage. We wouldn't want it getting wet. Oh, and give it a lick of paint. We really wanted a blue one.

BTW,It's always amazed me that the Women's Lib lot have never complained about God always being referred to as male. The implication and the logic of that would suggest there there would then have to be a female. Contentious stuff perhaps but every great discovery and invention has been the result of thinking about things.

Richard here in the US it has been an argument for a long time from the women's groups about God being female. This is not the place for a biblical discussion. You can quote the bible or just accept God as God and not worry about it.

It is for this reason that many people don't bother posting stats any longer. They get totally fed up by being overtaken by LOSERS who just amass points in order to climb to the top. It's pathetic. Just a sick joke. Perhaps we should start our own Facebook page. We could call it the "Real 101 Stats".

"Contentious"....inclined or showing an inclination to dispute or disagree.
In layman's language......If I don't like something, or if I disagee with something, or if I think something is wrong and needs to be changed.....I will TELL you. I would prefer to do this rather than be one of the "silent majority".
A few people have voiced their opinions and displeasure about how the 101 stats are compiled. I am one of them. I don't like it. I have never liked it. I voiced my concerns about it even before it was brought into effect. It is just plain wrong.
Opinions please. Ladies & gentlemen. My father always taught me, "Either speak up or shut up".

Hi Markus,I was being contentious because this issue with the stats has been raised quite a few times. I dispute that the present system is the best one. I disagree that people who have a high score because they have played a particular game hundreds of times, winning say 50%, should be above other players with 100% win rate. The best players should be at the top of the tables.
(I was glad to clarify what I meant anyway).

We have been over this all before as Richard said. I disagree a little with Richard. I don't think there is a perfect formula for deciding #1. Total score doesn't mean that much. I can be 1000 points behind someone but have more wins than they do and still be in second, third or even fourth place. And most wins doesn't mean that much either. Perhaps if you got more credit for a win. I don't know. I guess it is what it is. And I have to not worry about it. Just like the stats in PGS. Forget them and play the game.

Quite correct Markus. Germany has the third largest number of troops in Afghanistan. They are also taking casualties. Reading your message, i had to remember "a friend of mine" (?) in Munich. He plays sometimes PC Free Cell. His main principle is to try to win it in maximum 5 to 10 minutes. When it take much longer he will give him a loss.
I think, a lot of players just play to destroy (?) their mind. They don't really want to win the game. When you are looking at their average time, then you can see, they play the game only once without restarting it to try another sequence.
But that's making it very hard for Mike.

I see where you are coming from (understand your argument), but if they just want to empty their minds Markus, why do they bother to post their stats? People like that make it impossible for Mike and others to be at their rightful place at the top of the table.

What was I Scouting for. A good question. All I know is I worked hard for that medal. As for the other players in 101. I have no idea what their motivation is. In Pyramid it is possible they are trying to win the hand in just one deal of the cards. I have a friend who plays the game with regular cards that way. Or perhaps it is the was Markus's friend does. They have a time limit and then move on. Richard and myself and many of you opthers try to find a way to win the hand. No matter how long it takes. Just speeding through does not help us know if a particular hand is winnable or not. But it can make you #1. which pleases some people. If I just went through and played the rest of the hands in Pyramid without trying to win. I could then tie or pass the person in first position. I have already shown the false stats in 101. Perhaps this should be the critereon. You pass the person in first place in number of wins. But how would we really know the actual percentage in winnable hands in a game. I am sure that if Richard, KenM, KenB, Trisha, Kathy, Paul, Markus and many others were to play the Pyramid hands that I lost you could find ten or as many as fifteen that could have been solved. Most of my losses were impossible because of buried cards. But at least we would have a better idea of percentages.

I am certain that there are many people who have run more 100 metres races than Hussein Bolt, yet I'd not expect them to get gold medals for it. The best must be at the top. The also-rans have no place on the podium. Just imagine the Olympic Games if those people who had run more races, swam more lengths, or fought more bouts, were the only people who were allowed to compete. The medal ceremonies would be a hoot, with wrinkled old people being helped up onto the rostrums. Maybe they could get mini chair lifts.

"why do they bother to post their stats?"

I think they don't think about the others. They see the possibility to send and they do it and they also view it. And it seems that for them is only the place important and not the percentage. I would like to know, what they would answer if you would ask.
But i think, the climb-mode stats are better than the stats overall, because, there have players 100% with games, which are very hard winners and not only with a few games, but hundreds or even thousands.

Mike, just do as i: i only watch the percentage and if there is one of the hard trying name between and then i compare me just with them and it doesn't matter, that i am not on top. For example with Fan, i had been till just second. Now i saw, i was first, because my Game score was best. But there is now the question: my percentage is 41,1% (i can hardly hoold this), Gregg or others have a higher percentage, who should be on top?

I hope for example, that someone else is playing also the same number of games and show me then, how well i have done, because there are surely games who are winnable and i didn't, because i went on, having been in that moment to tired to try all sequences.

The Cinderella story. Little Butler University against the powerful Duke Devils. Yes I was sitting by the tv in my jersy and bulldog shorts thinking Butler had a chance. NO! I was watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and then I came up stairs to the computer and player with our new Sony Touch Reader trying to make it do what it suppose to do. Butler played well. I tuned back and forth to see how they were doing. But in the end the big school was to much. Great final four though. As a side note. As someone who played basket/ball in the college level. (a very small level) And who loved playing the game. The officiating turns me off. And the pros are the worst. Markus. I stopped worring about the stats along time ago. I just find it amusing what some people are doing in 101. And it is usually the same people. As I told Richard. I am only still playing a couple of games because of those people. I was trying to catch up in Bakers Game. But I am to slow. It would take forever. Don't worry. Be happy. That's why my son wants me on dr/ugs.

The Platters recorded this similar song.

"Id like to the thank the guy
Who wrote that song that made my baby fall in love with me"

"Who put the bomp in the bomp buh bomp buh bomp
Who put the ram in the rama lama ding dong
Who put the bop in the bop shoo bop shoo bop
Who put the dip in the dip dee dip dee dip
Who was that man, I'd like to shake his hand
He made my baby fall in love with me".

Both are from the 1960's

I was almost right. Are you sure the Platters recorded a similar song to this? They usually sang only ballads like My Prayer and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, two of my favorites.

The lyrics I posted above are those of The Platters version of this song. They definitely recorded it. They have recorded loads of songs apart from the ballads that they are better remembered for.

Mike has a dog,a Doberman.
It locks the door to use the can.
Walk him round the block old man,
Walk him round the block.
Ken has a dog,a big Great Dane,
It does it's biz then pulls the chain.
Walk him round the block old man,
Walk him round the block.
Markus has a wee Schitzu,
It's far too small to use the loo.
Scooping round the clock old man,
Scooping round the clock.
Kathy only has a cat,
Dogs would make short work of that.
It's safer in the house my girl,
Don't let it chew your mouse.

Should the bard be barred?
Should drunken offenders be put in cages with bars?

Strange thoughts have been known to run through my head you know?
Yesterday I was thinking of a name for a new comedienne. I thought that Laurel Hardy would be good. That's Laurel Anne Hardy.

Mike, they definitely need to check out St Augustine and go to the Fountain of Youth. Richard goes there regularly. He's actually 150, that's why he is so crotchety! BTW, Richard, saw The Flying Scotsman last night with my folks. We all LOVED it. How can you not love a movie that combines biking and the landscape of Scotland? Did you have a bit part in it? I could swear that I saw you in the pub scene.

Mike,Tell Debbie to steer clear of any fountains with youths in them. You don't want her getting frisky and coming home early.
Yes Ken, When I was 50 I was totally dumb, but don't worry mate, you'll grow out of it in another 3 or 4 decades. By that time the dementia will stop you worrying about it. I like being 150. With age comes wisdom, as I was saying to Solomon only last week.
Glad you liked The Flying Scotsman. I had an important role in the film. It was my job to ensure that the 8eer wasn't going off. I tested it and tested it and tested it. If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. Marcus was in it too. He was the Bavarian umpire. Imagine calling Obree a mad Englishman! It was me who wrote his retort. "If you want to see what mad is, just call me English again".

Thanks for the helpful information Ken. Richard does look good for his age. Markus. I am not going anywhere. I get to stay home and take care of the dogs. And I don't think I will have to worry about friskyness. At all. BTW. I have a place to stay in Ireland if I ever get there. Do you think I could get the same accomodations in Scotland.

I saw the ruin OK Mike. I wouldn't mind visiting it but I'd draw the line about staying there. I'm quite partial to a roof over my head during the night. It's probably an age thing. Given it's current state of disrepair we could rename it after anyone with a few slates loose. Maybe anyone who books a room there.

Mike, it strikes me that I have the exact opposite problem of Kathy. She's so serious most of the time so that when she makes a joke nobody realizes it. Whereas I'm so sarcastic most of the time (Thanks, Richard!) that when I'm serious it's taken as a joke. St Augustine is a great city to visit for your wife, especially the old, historic section where there is actually a Fountain of Youth. It's an interesting place and they would enjoy it!

Being serious is not allowed here. You all taught me that. As far as "old historic sections". That will have to be discussed in an email. I read about the Fountain of Youth park on the internet. The Conquistador ride looked like fun. You slide down a roller coaster eliminating ancient civilizations on your way. And of course Pizarros house of torture. I know who needs to visit that one for sure.

Hope you guys continue to have a laugh. I am off on a pilgrimage tomorrow. There is a pub on Raasay that I've not been in for about 4 years. It would be a lovely little island even without the pub. We will revisit the only road in the U.K. that was hand built by one determined Jock. Calum's Road. Google it. Wonderful story.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calum_MacLeod_(of_Raasay)
We will also spend a few days on adjacent Skye. At this time of year it should be relatively clear of both tourists and midgies!
