Hello Richard My maths is not my strong point as I cannot work out if there are only 720 pssible combinations because of the 4 ones or are there really 362,880 possible games with these numbers pondpaul |

Hi Paul, I couldn't be bothered working it out. Let's just says there are lots. Try 520114113 and then 1777500415. It wouldn't surprise me if we can't come up with a good few winners for Bucket. British Canister? No way!

Hi I to have got 520114113 how do you find them so quick? I can see from various freecell sites that only 69 in the first 32000 are winnable with no free cells so this makes a percentage of winnable games 0.00215625 pondpaul |

I will add # 673784960 to the solvable Bucket list. As for British Canister, my post in the Pretty Good Solitaire Questions Forum explains the long odds (one in a million) of a winner. So if anyone has the perseverence (or extreme luck) of finding a solution, I would applaud you. Larry |

What would horrify me is that it's possible to find that elusive British Canister winner and fail to solve it and just keep looking. In the next lot of new games, perhaps Thomas & Co could produce one with one or two freecells. That would be a challenge! |

Pretty Good Solitaire allows cards to be played back from the foundations to the tableau columns (this is called worrying back). After solving Richard's Bucket # 1019094464 only with the help of worrying back, I will make a correction to my previous post. The one in one million solving rate for British Canister with worrying back would probably be improved. |

God hasn't let us know yet. It's not easy to rearrange the world's weather to facilitate us. I reminded that we haven't been over to the west for quite some time but we're not fussed where we land up. We wouldn't mind spending a day or two in Edinburgh either. We'll consult the weather forecasts and head off in the most promising direction. We've already had the first snow showers where we live, so north or west could be a bit cold. I know of four pu-bs with log fires, so who cares? |

Richard, Have a go at # 38016 and # 68289 , but you need to play Freecell (with Bucket rules), so you get the same game. These were on the list of Bucket winnables using worryback as in PGS. Good luck, Larry |

I feel like the bucket got kicked! I have played 1921 games of Penguin without a loss. Just now my finger involuntarily flinched and took me to a new game before I'd finished the old one. Now I have 99.95% instead of 100%. Short of clearing all 1921 scores, is there any way I can go back and say "wait! I didn't lose that one!" and refigure that score? Sigh...I'd really rather not have to start all over... Thanks for listening.

Many of us have done similar things and have spoiled our stats. These days I trash mine deliberately. I simply don't need the stress. You KNOW you didn't lose the game in question. You still have 100%. Besides, some of the stats you may have seen may not be genuine anyway. |

This has been brought up before, but I don't think Gregg or Thomas ever addressed it. Would it be possible in future editions of PGS to move the "New Game" button away from the "Restart" button so things like this don't happen???? |

Ken, in PGSME you can customize your toolbar to avoid such things. Here is for example my toolbar: As you can see, i put the next game button far away and i deleted the new game button. |

>This has been brought up before, but I don't think Gregg or Thomas ever addressed it. Would it be possible in future editions of PGS to move the "New Game" button away from the "Restart" button so things like this don't happen???? We are planning a feature to allow "mulligans" in climb mode, to allow replacing an older score, and I will be investigating the possibility of allowing buttons to be rearranged on the toolbar in Windows (as in the Mac Edition). However, it may be a little while before these are implemented. In the meantime, the best solution is to enable confirmation of starting new games. In Pretty Good Solitaire [Windows], click the 'Options' button on the toolbar (at the game list), select 'Preferences' and tick the 'Confirm new games and restarts' checkbox. On Most Popular Solitaire and Goodsol Solitaire 101, click the 'Options' button and (on the 'General' tab) tick the 'Confirm when starting new games' checkbox. (Note that there is slightly finer control on these games, with separate confirmation for restarts, because I mindlessly confirmed a new game without thinking, ruining my stats in the same way. ) Also, the last time this was discussed, we decided not to change the (default) position of toolbar buttons because, basically, Pretty Good Solitaire has 15 years of history and many players expect the toolbar buttons where they are. (When an early version of MPS had a different ordering of toolbar buttons, we actually got complaints.)

You are welcome, although I can only take credit for the implementation... >>Where did the suggestion originate? >I cannot tell. I am used on my Mac, that i can customize the toolbar. But where is the origin, i cannot say. Maybe Gregg knows the answer? The standard toolbar on Mac OS X has the option of custom configuration built-in, which is why it is so common for Mac software. Since the first Mac Edition was developed after the first debate about the position of toolbar buttons, I chose to do what was necessary to allow for customization. On the Windows side, there is no customization feature on the standard toolbar, and (apparently) no common interface, so I need to figure out the best way to implement it there. (That, and find the time. )

(Since Saban was head coach at MSU but defected for more money, we have extra incentive to pummel the traitor.) >We did our part, Gregg, by beating Missouri. Let's keep the Big 10 streak going! Congratulations on the victory. The Sun Belt Conference (who?) is the only other undefeated conference in bowl games, so far, but they only have one more game. The Big 10 is playing in 5 of the 6 bowl games tomorrow (plus there is still Ohio State to play later). I will be cheering for all of them, but, honestly, only watching THE game.
