No doubt this has been asked before, but can't find an answer. Why does the PGMJ available moves counter sometimes decrease by more than one after one match is made? TGA!

>Why does the PGMJ available moves counter sometimes decrease by more than one after one match is made? This happens when the number of matches decreases by more than one. Seriously, the number of matches can decrease by more than one if there were 3 or more matching tiles available. With three matching tiles, there are 3 possible matches; when one is used (leaving a single tile), the counter can decrease by 3. With four matching tiles, using a match can decrease the counter by 5 (from 6 matches down to 1). These reductions, of course, can be offset by new matches from exposing other tiles. In the extreme example, using 4 complete tile sets (576 tiles), one could have all 16 matching tiles free, which gives 120 matches. Removing two tiles (one match) reduces the number to only 91, so the match counter could decrease by as much as 29 (unlikely as that may be ). I trust that this answers your questions adequately.

Thanks, Gregg - I figured it was something like that, though I've tried to play around with all the matches to see what happens. No doubt I missed some combinations!
